[Noto Peninsula Earthquake 2024] Support for Wakura Onsen

Wakura Onsen, located in the heart of Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture, is one of Japan’s leading seaside hot spring resorts, visited by one million guests annually.
On January 1st, 2024 at 4:10 PM (local time), a magnitude 7.6 earthquake occurred. Wakura Onsen suffered extensive damage. All 21 inns in the area were forced to close, and even three months after the earthquake, prospects for recovery remain challenging.
At the time of the earthquake, over 2000 guests were staying in Wakura Onsen. Using their practised evacuation drills, inn staff prioritised guest safety. Fortunately, all guests were unharmed, with no serious injuries reported.
■ Approximate Damage Amount (2024-2025)
The total damage from building and facility destruction, including inns, hot spring facilities, shops, coastal seawalls, etc, amounts to over 100 billion yen. The earthquake also led to cancellations of accommodation reservations, resulting in approximately 2 billion yen in lost revenue from January to February 2024. Bookings for April onwards have continued to be cancelled.
We seek to inform as many people as possible about the current situation at Wakura Onsen. With your support, we are determined to revive Wakura Onsen. Thank you for your assistance.
